I had a "YAY" moment last week in our preschool. For those who don't know, I am the director & a teacher of a preschool serving our missionary families in Tijuana, Mexico. We are multi-cultural and multi-lingual. I had very little Montessori exposure about 12 years ago before I became a missionary when I nannied for a family that attended a Montessori school. When looking for something completely different last summer I stumbled across a Montessori website or youtube channel and got sucked in. We started implementing some of the principles and works into our class and after a HUGE renovation to the school last summer we officially made the transition into a more Montessori-focused (we are not officially trained and aren't an official Montessori school) school but that transition has been a little difficult. This is partially due to some teachers not fully grasping the philosophy and methods (my fault) and trying to introduce a whole new way of learning to all of the kids at once (we have ages 1-6 split more like a traditional Montessori school). Most of my time was spent redirecting a child to find an activity to do as well as teaching a new one to a student. Finally, last Thursday as I was walking through the classroom, I was in awe of the fact that everyone had come in, put their stuff away, picked an activity and was quietly & respectfully working. They were speaking with respect to others while not disturbing those who were working and my other teachers were quietly working alongside students as well. I was so elated!! YAY!!!! #smallvictories #noteveryday #butilltakeit

This was from a sermon about a month ago by my pastor (Dr. Kirk Walters) at my home church in Birmingham, AL but this quote totally resonates with me & it is something that has come up in several one on ones that I've had recently. Often times it is as simple as asking God what He wants to teach us during those moments of hurt & pain and other times it is a conscious decision to allow growth to happen out of that pain. We can't control the circumstances but we can control our reaction and what we do with the outcome. Give it to God, focus on Him instead & ask Him to show you something outside of yourself. When we stop focusing on our hurt & pain, He can bring that healing that we so desperately need and we can see the healing that He is offering!!! #preach #truth #beautyfromashes

The awesome kids at my home church, Metropolitan Church, helped lead worship in big church today. My niece even got to sing a solo part. Check out her song starting at about 20:00 into the video. Just before this song, Ms Kellie, our Children's Pastor, tells an awesome story about Walt Disney's daughter. Check it out! Feel free to stick around for an incredible message as well. #proudaunt #churchofmyGod #churchofGod #cog #worship #bigchurch #kidsinbigchurch #metrocogbhm #metrocog

{Not looking for a debate, looking for honest understanding from both sides} With the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as the new Secretary of Education in the US today, I'm curious as to WHY you oppose or approve this?? Living in Mexico and working in the field of education, I'm honestly curious because I haven't been following this nomination very closely but I'm hearing very polarizing information (she wants to shut down all public schools OR she wants to allow parents to choose which school their children attend; she has absolutely no idea what she's doing OR she is an expert in alternative education means; etc). Please, respectfully, give your thoughts & opinions below (with sources when possible) on the YAY or NAY of this confirmation. I'm truly trying to understand. Thank you for being respectful & know that if things get nasty, your comments will be deleted.

My current thoughts on life in general, take them as you will. There is a reason that the flight attendants say in case of loss of cabin pressure place your mask on first & then help your child or those around you. If you are passed out because of lack of oxygen, you literally can't help anyone else. There is a reason that it is said "if you aren't taking care of yourself, you can't take care of others". If you aren't taking the time you need to take care of yourself & you end up sick, it does nothing for those in need of your care. There are times in life where being selfish (or self care) is important. If you continually give and give and give but don't take time to refuel or be selfish, your sustainability will be non-existent. This life that we have been given is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to pace yourself or you will not be able to finish. You also have to take care of yourself along the entire journey in order to complete the race. I want to see all people succeed in life. We need to be learning self care. Anyways, those are my thoughts and opinions. Love you all!! Take care of yourself & your families. God's blessings to each of you! If I can pray for you tonight, please don't hesitate to ask.
